On Monday, April 8, 2024 our region will experience a total solar eclipse, a once in a lifetime event. It will last about 2 ½ hours, starting shortly after 2 pm until 4:30 pm. The total eclipse when the sun will be completely blocked by the moon and the earth in complete darkness will last 3 minutes from 3:22 pm to 3:25 pm here in South Frontenac. Here is some updated information so you can enjoy the event safely.

Key Updates

  • There are no Township-planned viewing events scheduled in South Frontenac
  • Township offices will remain open to the public with regular business hours, 8 am to 4:30 pm
  • The local school boards have declared April 8, 2024 a PA Day so school activities, and busing will not be impacted
  • The Kingston, Frontenac Public Library is handing out free eclipse glasses (limit of 2 per person) starting Monday, March 25 while supplies last at their branches. The Sydenham branch is open from 10-3 on Mondays and the Hartington branch is open from 1-6 pm. You can also buy glasses at local retailers
  • Authorities are warning we could see higher traffic volumes in our region that day so be careful if you are out on the roads
