South Frontenac Museum

South Frontenac Museum:  Summer Opening Saturday, May 18, 2019 1:00 pm to 4:00 p.m. at 5595 Road 38 (30 minutes north on Gardiners Road) in Hartington.

The theme of this year’s exhibit is South Frontenac from 1900 to 1929 – Before, During, and After the Great War.  The centrepiece is our extensive collection of artifacts and records related to the 146th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force – a battalion created to recruit soldiers from Frontenac, and Lennox and Addington.  Supporting displays illustrate the contribution of women to the war effort.  There are also exhibits of tools and other items used on the home front.

The museum will be open Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday afternoons from 1-4.  All are welcome.  Admission is by donation.

The Portland District & Area Heritage Society was formed in June 2002 by like-minded citizens in the Verona area. In June 2008, the society become a Committee of Council and in September 2012, the society was contracted by the municipality to manage the museum located at 5595 Road 38 in the hamlet of Hartington. The Future of Our Past - Our Museum is growing!

We are embarking on some ambitious programs.  These include cataloging our collections electronically, developing new exhibits, setting up new programs for visiting schools, seniors, and other groups, reaching out to a broader audience, and filling in gaps in the coverage of our artifacts and exhibits.
