Connect With Our Past at the South Frontenac Museum

South Frontenac Museum

The Portland District & Area Heritage Society was formed in June 2002 by like-minded citizens in the Verona area. In June 2008, the society become a Committee of Council and in September 2012, the society was contracted by the municipality to manage the museum located at 5595 Road 38 in the hamlet of Hartington. In 2015 the Museum opened the doors of the Hartington School House which served the area from 1903 - 1953. In 2019, the society changed it's name to the South Frontenac Museum Society.

The Museum is fully accessible and there is no cost for admission, though donations are gratefully accepted. The Museum operates on regular hours during the summer months and by appointment through the off-season. The Museum is air conditioned, offers free public WiFi provided by WTC, and there is a washroom in the Princess Anne Building next door. Visit the museum's website for more information.

The Future of Our Past – Our Museum is Growing!

We are embarking on some ambitious programs.  These include cataloguing our collections electronically, developing new exhibits, setting up new programs for visiting schools, seniors, and other groups, reaching out to a broader audience, and filling in gaps in the coverage of our artifacts and exhibits.
