For Immediate Release

Over the past several weeks, the Ontario government has continued to ease public health measures across the province. Effective March 21, 2022, Ontario will remove the mandatory masking requirement for most settings, with the exception of transit services, health care settings, long-term care homes and congregate care settings.

As of March 21, 2022, South Frontenac employees and patrons will no longer be required to wear a mask when entering a Township facility or interacting with staff.

The decision to remove mandatory masking requirements at indoor Township facilities was made in accordance with the Provincial announcement and KFL&A Public Health recommendations. While there is no requirement to wear a mask, residents are encouraged to assess their own comfort level when it comes to masking and continue to wear a mask should they choose.

While this change represents progress in our community’s fight against COVID-19, some safety protocols for Township owned facilities will remain in place until further notice. This includes:

  • line queuing at reception areas,
  • use of separate entrances for patrons at the municipal office located at 4432 George St, in Sydenham (lower level vs main level),
  • plexiglass screens where applicable,
  • regular disinfecting of common areas, and
  • active symptom screening for individuals that rent or attend an event at a Township indoor recreational facility.

Residents that utilize the Frontenac Community Arena are reminded that mandatory masking will remain in place until the season ends on March 27, 2022. Masks are not required when eating or drinking, or when participating on the ice. For more information, please visit www.frontenacarena.com.

Although many are looking forward to the masking change, please keep in mind that residents and staff may continue to exercise caution, whether that be through continued masking and/or social distancing. Please be respectful of other’s masking preferences, and always treat staff and other patrons with kindness.
