For Immediate Release

On November 23, 2021, South Frontenac Council voted in favour of supporting Southern Frontenac Community Services Corporation’s (SFCSC) Grace Centre expansion project.

The 3,360 sq. ft. expansion to the facility located at 4295 Stagecoach Road in Sydenham will provide SFCSC with enhanced efficiencies in their food preparation and delivery programs, meet important facility accessibility requirements, and most importantly, increase the organization’s overall capacity to address the needs of up to 8,000 seniors in South Frontenac and rural Kingston.

“Having supported Southern Frontenac Community Services for many years, Council has seen the numerous benefits that this organization brings to our community,” explained Mayor Ron Vandewal. “While their request for support is one of largest that this Council has ever approved, we made a commitment in our Strategic Plan to be a catalyst for the creation of vibrant, complete communities, and this investment does just that.”

SFCSC currently provides services to approximately 1,200 individuals across 10 programs annually, most of whom are seniors and residents of South Frontenac. The majority of services provided are not otherwise available without venturing outside of the Township, making SFCSC a key agency in the community, as they have a rural focus, are locally managed and provide direct, quantifiable benefits to a growing demographic.

As an area that is poised for significant growth over the next 15 years, it is anticipated that the number of people living in South Frontenac aged 55-74 will increase 21% by 2036, while the 75+ population will grow by 137%. In response to these projections and the substantial increase in program uptake experienced over the last year, SFCSC has identified a need to expand their facility in order to position the organization to deliver sustainable community support services for many years to come

“We share the same driven focus as the Township, which is our commitment to support the needs and wellbeing of the residents of the community we serve,” says Greg Fisher, Chair for Southern Frontenac Community Services. “Our entire organization is incredibly grateful to the Township for being the cornerstone of our Capital Campaign and positioning us to achieve success. The next phase of fundraising for the Grace Centre expansion will launch in the new year, which will remain separate from our operations and service delivery campaign that takes place at this time each year to assist in supporting our everyday services.”

While the contribution of $750,000 from the Township’s working reserve fund will fund about 41% of the project, SFCSC is still responsible for coming up with an additional $850,000 through other fundraising efforts.

“Council is confident that the Township’s investment will kick-start the next phase of fundraising for SFCSC and will get the community excited about the project and future service expansion,” said Mayor Vandewal.
