On March 31, 2022, the Wolfe Lake Association(WLA) launched their Lead Fishing Tackle Buy Back Program. The main goal of this program is to reduce the accumulation of toxic lead fishing tackle in the environment where it continues to pile up in literal tons each year and is directly responsible for the poisoning deaths of loons, eagles, swans, geese, ducks and other aquatic birds and wildlife.
The Lead Fishing Tackle Buy Back Program combats the issue of lead toxicity from lost fishing tackle by incentivizing the angling community to trade their lead tackle for a $10 voucher to be used on the purchase of non-toxic tackle alternatives made from tungsten, bismuth, tin, steel, glass and other environmentally safer materials.
