Brass Point Bridge to Close June 25, 2026
From: Parks Canada
Parks Canada will begin the full replacement of Brass Point Bridge in Seeley’s Bay on June 25, 2026, with reopening expected in December 2027. This project will replace both the historic swing and fixed bridges, upgrade roadway infrastructure, and ensure the long-term safety and functionality of this key crossing on the Rideau Canal National Historic Site. This significant investment in the community will support reliable transportation infrastructure for residents, businesses, and visitors for decades to come.
Parks Canada recognizes the significant impact of this temporary closure for residents, businesses, and travellers. We are working closely with the contractor to carefully coordinate timelines and minimize the length of the closure.
Project Timeline:
Phase 1:
Preliminary Work (Spring 2026 – June 24, 2026 – Bridge remains open to vehicular traffic). Preliminary work will focus on site preparation activities to support the main construction phase. During this phase, the bridge will remain open to vehicular traffic.
Phase 2:
Main Construction and Closure (June 25, 2026 – December 2027 – Bridge closed to all vehicular traffic). The replacement of the bridge structures will require a full closure to all vehicular traffic. A vehicle detour route will be provided. A pedestrian crossing will remain available during construction.
Navigation for watercraft will not be interrupted during hours of operation. Navigation will not be possible under the bridge outside these hours. Parks Canada continues to coordinate with local service providers, including emergency services, to ensure continuity of service during construction.
Phase 3:
Project Completion (Late 2028 – Short-term closure required). Final finishing work, including painting of the timber swing bridge, is scheduled for late 2028. This work will require a short-term closure of approximately three weeks to complete the project.
Community Updates and Engagement:
