South Frontenac Fire & Rescue Respond to Garage Fire

Shortly after 10:00 pm on Sunday, June 22, 2025, 28 South Frontenac Fire and Rescue firefighters from the Hartington, Verona, Sydenham, and Latimer stations responded to a report of a fully involved garage fire in the 5000 block of Bellrock Mill Street.

Smoke and flames were visible on route to the call. Upon arrival, firefighters observed a fully involved garage fire with extension to the attached house, a camper trailer parked in the driveway, a personal vehicle, and a 4-wheeler. The occupant of the trailer was alerted to the fire when the power went out and the fridge beeped when the cooling source turned off. Upon exiting the trailer, he observed a fire in the garage and around the home’s electrical panel. 

“The gentleman in the trailer immediately notified the two adults and three children in the home”, says Del Blakney, Director of Emergency Services & Fire Chief. “911 was called and all persons were able to evacuate safely. Our dedicated firefighters were on scene working in the high heat conditions for approximately five and a half hours.”  

Blakney states that the fire is not considered suspicious. Damage is estimated at $500,000 and all six persons involved have been displaced. This incident marks South Frontenac Fire & Rescue’s second working structure fire over the course of the last three days. SFFR reminds all occupants of a home to discuss and practice a home escape plan to help increase exit times and reduce the possibility of occupants being trapped in the home.
