Requests for reduced speed limits are received and reviewed on an ad hoc basis. Various segments of roads have been compiled that fit the criteria for speed reduction.  These requests are also reviewed by the Ontario Provincial Police, Frontenac Detachment.

Under the Highway Traffic Act, the current speed limit is 50 kilometres per hour by default in built up areas and 80 kilometres per hour elsewhere. Road segments are reviewed by incorporating the Council endorsed TAC Automated Speed Limit Guidelines analysis tool.

In order for the township to consider a reduction in the speed limit on any road, the following information is required when a request is filed:

  • Street/Road Name
  • Time of Day
  • Direction

A signed petition including a majority of residents must accompany the request.

Complete the Speed Limit Reduction Request Form and submit it to the Public Services Department for review and consideration.
