Zoning

The property where your business will be located must comply with current zoning by-laws. If you have questions about zoning, you can book a meeting with our planning team who will be happy to discuss your proposal.

Registering your business

There is no requirement for business owners to register or license their business with the Township. Refreshment vehicles and chip wagons are required to be licensed. You will need to register your business with Service Ontario. Once you have chosen your business name and done your research so you know it doesn't conflict with existing businesses or trademarks, register it online or by mail at:

Service Ontario
P.O. Box 1028 Station B
Toronto, ON M5T 3H3
1-800-565-1921

HST

You will need to decide whether you want to register for a Harmonized Sales Tax number and collect and remit HST payments for your business. Not all businesses are required to apply for an HST number.

Vendor permits

The Ontario government issues vendor permits that allows businesses to sell taxable goods or services in the province. The permit is required to be displayed at the business location to collect and remit applicable taxes. To register for a Vendor Permit call the Ministry of Revenue at: 1-866-ONT-TAXS (1-866-668-8297) or register online at ontario.ca/taxservices.
