Due to the current Coronavirus/COVID-19 situation, alterations have been made to our day-to-day work operations of the Development Services (Planning & Building). Please see the information below for our up to date protocols.  Building and Planning staff will remain available to respond to inquiries and assist in the processing of applications via phone and email.

Building 

Effective April 4, 2020, the Township of South Frontenac is temporarily suspending the issuance of building permits for non-essential construction projects. This decision has been made in accordance with the Provincial Regulation made under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, which requires all non-essential construction projects to cease construction.  A complete listing of essential workplaces is available from the Government of Ontario. This decision will be in effect until further notice and will be updated pending further direction from the Province of Ontario.

  • Building permits for essential construction will continue to be issued, but no new building permits for residential/industrial/commercial construction will be issued until the emergency regulation has been lifted.
  • Building Permit applications however, will continue to be accepted and reviewed for all types of construction.  Building permit applications can be submitted at this time by placing them in the large drop box at the front door of the Township Office at 4432 George Street, Sydenham.  
  • In accordance with the Provincial order, inspections will continue for essential construction projects including: 
    • Residential construction projects where a building permit (footing permit or above-grade structural permit) has been issued prior to April 4th or where the project involves renovations to residential properties and construction was started before April 4, 2020
    • Construction projects and services required to ensure safe and reliable operation of critical provincial infrastructure
    • Construction and maintenance activities necessary to temporarily close construction sites that have paused or are not active and to ensure public safety
    • Construction projects and services associated with the healthcare sector
    • Construction activities related to the production or maintenance of personal protective equipment, medical devices, and other products directly related to combatting the COVID-19 pandemic

All inspections of essential construction will be undertaken in accordance with the Township’s current protocol in order to maintain the health and safety of our Building Inspectors, contractors, and the general public:

  • Building Inspectors will not enter occupied buildings.
  • Inspectors will not engage in interpersonal contact at sites.
  • Prior to attending sites, staff will inquire if any persons on the site or that have been accessing the site, are exhibiting symptoms associated with the COVID-19 virus, have been exposed to a probable case of the virus, or are in self-isolation.

Township Building staff are available to help residents understand how the Regulation may affect their projects. We encourage residents to contact either the Building Services staff they have been working with or to connect with us through our general Building Services representative(s) at building@southfrontenac.net or at 613-376-3027x2226.

At this time - building inspections will be limited to being conducted on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  The delivery of these services will be evaluated on an on-going basis during the evolving COVID-19 situation.  Typical timelines for the issuance of building permits may not be possible at this time.

  • Zoning By-law Mapping has been released on Frontenac Maps and can be viewed from home.  This mapping is available to assist real estate agents and the public with real estate inquiries :  www.frontenacmaps.ca

NOTE: Planning Applications must be commissioned off-site.

  • Payments accepted by cheque ONLY; payable to the Township of South Frontenac.  Separate cheques are required for agencies.
  • Typical timelines for the processing of planning applications will not be able to be met at this time.  The Township continues to assess the ability to hold public meetings for planning applications and to hold Council and Committee of Adjustment meetings during the evolving COVID 19 situation.
