Remembrance Day Message from Mayor Ron Vandewal

This Saturday, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour, we will stand silently and pay homage to those who fought for our country and sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

With all the struggles and violence in the world right now, we should be thankful we live in a country where hope, peace and freedom burn bright.

But we must never take peace and freedom for granted.

This Remembrance Day I ask you to join me in remembering and sending a message of hope and peace.

We must carry on the legacy of our grandparents, great grandparents and elders who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace and do everything in our power to make sure the refrains of war never darken our door again.

We must remember.

For those who came before us, and for those who will follow.

Here is a list of Remembrance Day ceremonies happening this year in South Frontenac:

• Sandhill Cemetery: Remembrance Day Service starting at 10:45 am, followed by a reception at Storrington Lions Club Hall in Sunbury
• Sydenham Cenotaph: Branch 496 Royal Canadian Legion service starting at 10:45 am. Legion members and veterans are welcome to join the parade as they march from the branch starting at 10:30 am. Refreshments following at the Legion at 4361 Amelia Street. For those who can’t attend, there will be a live stream from the Sydenham Legion Facebook Page. In the event of bad weather, please meet at the cenotaph at 10:45 a.m.
• Verona: McMullen Park at the Verona Cenotaph, Road 38. For those wishing to join the parade please gather inside the Verona Free Methodist Church. The Sisters of the Drum will bring attendees from the church to the piper at the Cenotaph at 10:45 am. The VCA welcomes all Veterans, those now serving and our community to the service. After the service there will be a light lunch served in the church hall.
