For Immediate Release

It is our goal to keep residents up to date on all changes and information related to municipal service delivery and enhanced precautions that have been put in place to help protect the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Building and Planning Applications
For the last week and half, Township building staff have returned to issuing building permits for all types of construction. During this time a disclaimer was included to inform residents that only construction deemed essential by the Province was allowed to continue, despite issuance of the permit.

Effective Tuesday May 19, 2020, all restrictions put in place to limit non-essential construction will be lifted. This means that all types of construction within the Township can resume subject to issuance of a permit from the building department where required.

While inspections on all construction can now occur, Building Inspectors will continue following a new inspection protocol due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These protocols include:

  • Building Inspectors will not enter occupied buildings for inspections
  • Inspectors will not engage in interpersonal contact at sites
  • Prior to attending sites, staff will inquire if any persons on the site or related to the site are exhibiting symptoms associated with COVID-19, have been exposed to a probable case of the virus, or are in self-isolation

Any construction work that takes place without a permit or without inspection by Building Department staff will be subject to a potential Order under the Building Code Act.

The Township of South Frontenac Building Department appreciates your understanding and cooperation during these challenging times and will remain available to respond to inquiries and assist in the processing of applications via phone and email while our offices continue to be closed to the public. The Building Department can be reached by phone at 613-376-3027 ext. 2226 or by email at building@southfrontenac.net

Opening of Some Recreational Facilities
Yesterday the Province announced that seasonal businesses and recreational activities for individual or single competitors including training and sport competitions are permitted to resume as of May 19th, 2020.

This new measure includes indoor and outdoor non-team sport competitions that can be played while maintaining physical distancing and without spectators. Township facilities that fall under this umbrella include:

  • Tennis Courts
  • Track fields

In order to ensure the safety of staff and residents, the Township will only be opening the corresponding recreational amenities effective May 30th, 2020. This additional time will allow safety protocols, signage and other precautions to be taken at each site.

Township staff will also be in contact with facility user groups to discuss rules and scheduling prior to these facilities being reopened.

While the Province has allowed these facilities to reopen, public washrooms and other nearby amenities must remain closed at this time

When facilities reopen, the Township will be following all protocols and restrictions put in place by the Province at that time. This may include restrictions on the number of users, spectators, social distancing of players/participants, or other requirements.
