Recognizing the vital role that local volunteers play in achieving South Frontenac’s strategic vision to be a community that is natural, vibrant and growing, Council is eager to host the 2020 Volunteer Appreciation Event on Saturday, November 13th, 2021. This year’s event focuses on honouring the volunteers that contributed to the community during the pandemic.

The event will be held at the Verona Lion’s Hall, located at 4504 Verona Sand Rd, from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Pre-registration and proof of vaccination will be required for all attendees over the age of 12, and COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed, including limited capacity.

“South Frontenac is a vibrant and active place to live with numerous opportunities for community engagement and involvement,” says Mayor Ron Vandewal. “Many of the programs, teams, clubs and associations would not be possible without the contributions of volunteers. The Volunteer Appreciation Event is a small gesture from Council to recognize the hard work and dedication of the volunteers that make South Frontenac a welcoming community.”

The Volunteer Appreciation Event aims to recognize a broader range of volunteers by celebrating their contributions and achievements over a shared meal and live local music. Due to COVID-19 distancing requirements, there are limited, free tickets available. In an effort to ensure representation from the various volunteers sectors in the community, tickets are available for youth, community association, sport association, social wellness, and environmental volunteers. Each volunteer ticket also includes one guest of their choice.

Council has been recognizing community volunteerism since 1998 with the Volunteer of the Year Award. Over the past several years, nominations for the award have been on the decline, prompting a desire for a program refreshment. Last November, in adaptation to the pandemic, the 2019 volunteer recognition recipients received a mailed appreciation package from Council and gratitude videos were posted on the Township’s social media pages. As public gathering limits ease, Council is excited to offer this in-person celebration and hopes the event will become an annual tradition.

“As this is a recognition of 2020 volunteers, Council is hopeful that our residents who either joined or continued to contribute to the volunteer work-force in the midst of the pandemic can join us,” said Mayor Vandewal. “Navigating the new reality has been a challenge for us all, but our volunteers rose to the challenge, ensuring their associations stayed afloat and continued to provide programs and services wherever possible. Council is honoured to acknowledge this work, and grateful to all those that choose to volunteer in South Frontenac.”
