Godfrey - The Frontenac Community Arena (FCA) Board of Directors are pleased to announce that the FCA is the recipient of up to $985,371 from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) grant. These funds will help fund the $1,343,750 capital costs of replacing the Arena’s 44-year-old refrigerated floor with a new, more energy-efficient and safer system.

The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) is a cost-shared infrastructure funding program between the federal government, provinces and territories, and municipalities and other recipients. This program provides federal, provincial and other partner funding, under four priority areas, including Community, Culture and Recreation.  The Community, Culture and Recreation stream supports community infrastructure priorities across the province, improving access to and / or quality of community, cultural, and recreation priority infrastructure projects.

“The FCA submitted a joint application along with the Township of South Frontenac and Central Frontenac, and we are delighted to be a recipient of the grant,” said Arena Board Chair and Central Frontenac Township Councillor Brent Cameron. “This represents a significant investment into the ice making foundation of the Arena. More importantly, it allows us to guarantee our community - and our Arena family – a reliable facility for decades to come,” added Cameron.

“Once complete, the upgrades to the Frontenac Community Arena will be enjoyed by residents of Central Frontenac,” said Mayor of Central Frontenac Frances Smith. “Funding through the ICIP is timely and appreciated,” added Smith.

“I was thrilled to hear that the FCA was successful in securing this grant from the Provincial and Federal Governments,” said South Frontenac Mayor Ron Vandewal. “Being a shared service between South and Central Frontenac, "the timing of this news is welcome and will benefit both our communities." “I would like to thank the Staff involved with having the foresight to go after additional funding sources and ultimately submitted a persuasive and successful grant application,” added Vandewal.

“This is the most significant Capital replacement project since the arena opened in 1976,” said Arena Manager Tim Laprade.” “The work scheduled reflects the Arena Board representing both Township’s continued commitment to investing in the long-term future of the FCA and supporting our community arena,” added Laprade.
