Cancellation of South Frontenac Canada Day Events

For Immediate Release

Given the current uncertainty surrounding coronavirus (COVID-19) and the Province extending the state of emergency, Canada Day planning committees, with support from the Township, have had to make the difficult decision to not proceed with 2020 Canada Day Events.

“With the health and safety of all residents being the priority, and giving consideration to the immense amount of planning that goes into organizing these events, I understand and support this difficult decision by these committees,” says Mayor Vandewal.

The government of Ontario has enacted numerous emergency orders including the required closure of outdoor recreation amenities and a prohibition on group gatherings of more than five (5) persons. There is little indication at this time of when these restrictions will be lifted.

The cancellations include events organized by the Harrowsmith Social and Athletics Club in Centennial Park, the Storrington Canada Day Committee in Sunbury Park and the Loughborough Canada Day Committee in Sydenham Point Memorial Park.

“On behalf of Council, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Canada Day Event organizers and volunteers for all that they have done in the past and will do in the future to provide our residents with great celebrations,” added Vandewal.
